Punjabi actor Dev Kharoud, known for his roles in Blackia and Dakuan Da Munda, visited the Connect FM 91.5 studio in Surrey during promotion for his new film Ucha Dar Babe Nanak Da.

In an exclusive interview, Kharoud went beyond cinema to voice concerns about politics and environmental issues in Punjab.

He criticized the misuse of Punjab’s name in politics and emphasized the importance of staying close to Gurbani. Most notably, he raised alarm about Punjab’s water scarcity, warning that meaningful change depends on public action as much as government policy.

"Don’t expect anything from any political party unless the people of Punjab realize how vital water is for them and take steps to preserve it," Kharoud told Connect FM.

He said films like Ucha Dar Babe Nanak Da are relevant because they highlight pressing cultural and social themes. The movie, directed by Tarnvir Jagpal, features Yograj Singh, Sarbjeet Cheema, Harj Nagra, Moncia Gill, and Isha Reikhi.

For many in the Punjabi diaspora in Surrey and Abbotsford, Kharoud’s comments on water conservation echo ongoing debates about sustainability and agriculture in Punjab. Experts have long warned that the state’s groundwater reserves are declining at alarming rates.
