Canadian authorities are warning residents and international visitors to be alert to fraud schemes linked to the upcoming FIFA World Cup, as demand grows for tickets, travel and accommodations.

The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, along with policing partners in host cities Toronto and Vancouver, issued the advisory, saying fraudsters may attempt to exploit interest in the tournament, which Canada is co-hosting with the United States and Mexico.

According to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, investigators are tracking several types of suspected scams, including fake ticket sales, fraudulent short-term rental listings and the sale of counterfeit goods or services tied to the event. The agency said common warning signs include requests for deposits or full payment in advance, as well as offers advertised at steep discounts that may indicate substandard or unsafe products.

Police are urging the public to verify purchases through official FIFA channels, cross-check rental listings using multiple sources and report suspicious activity to authorities. The advisory applies to both Canadian residents and visitors planning to attend matches.

Canada is scheduled to host 13 matches during the 48-team men’s tournament, which begins June 11, including six games in Toronto and seven in Vancouver.
