Premier David Eby has announced a major cabinet shuffle aimed at strengthening British Columbia’s economy and job growth, with several high-profile changes affecting portfolios central to the province’s future.

Ravi Kahlon, MLA for Delta North, will take over as Minister of Jobs and Economic Growth, moving from the housing file. He replaces Diana Gibson, who moves to Citizens’ Services.

Among other shifts:

  • Nina Krieger becomes Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General, replacing Garry Begg.

  • Christine Boyle assumes the Housing and Municipal Affairs portfolio.

  • Spencer Chandra-Herbert takes over Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation.

  • Jessie Sunner becomes Minister of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills.

  • Rick Glumac is appointed Minister of State for AI and New Technologies.

Eby told reporters in Victoria that the shuffle is designed to bring new energy into government: “We are putting forward a team that reflects the priorities of a new generation while ensuring experienced ministers advance major projects and economic prosperity.”

Community leaders in Surrey say Kahlon’s appointment to the jobs file is significant for the region. “With his Delta background and ties to immigrant communities, there’s hope that workforce development programs will better reflect our local needs,” one local business advocate told Connect FM.

The shuffle also drew attention from the opposition. BC United said it would hold the government accountable for results on housing and affordability, while noting concern about continuity in the public safety ministry.

Political analysts say the shuffle highlights the government’s focus on investment, housing, and emerging technologies, while preparing for the 2025 provincial election.
