BC Conservatives criticize NDP government following two Surrey shooting incidents

The BC Conservative Party is criticizing the provincial NDP government following two separate shooting incidents in Surrey that left two people dead and two others injured.

BC Conservative representative Harman Bhangu questioned the province’s approach to public safety, saying shootings, gang violence and homicides are increasingly affecting residential neighbourhoods. Bhangu said residents are frustrated by repeated political statements following violent incidents and are demanding stronger action to address public safety concerns.

Surrey–Cloverdale MLA Elenore Sturko also called on the provincial government to restore the Surrey Police Service gang enforcement unit, arguing that ongoing gun violence in Surrey demonstrates the need for targeted anti-gang policing resources.

According to police information, two people were shot and killed around 10 p.m. Sunday in an underground parking area in the 7000 block of 133B Street. Earlier that morning, at about 4 a.m., two people were injured in a separate shooting outside a gas station in the 7100 block of 152 Street.

Police are continuing to investigate both incidents. Authorities have not confirmed whether the two shootings are connected.

The incidents have renewed public safety concerns in Surrey, where gang-related violence remains an ongoing issue. Further updates from investigators are expected as the investigations continue.
