Canada's Foreign Minister Melanie Joly has appealed to India to improve relations through dialogue.

Jolly said there is an atmosphere of tension between the two governments so it becomes more important than ever that diplomats are on the ground for talks.

She said that we want a strong diplomatic presence in India.

Melanie Joly said that we believe that diplomatic dialogue is best when it is personal, so we urge India to engage in personal dialogue.

It is to be noted that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also said that he does not want tension with India.

India has also stopped visa services for Canadians after the dispute escalated between the two countries.

India's stance is tough even when several western allies, including the US have urged India to cooperate with Canada in arresting those responsible for the death of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

India has described the allegations made by Canada as baseless.

The Alberta government is sending additional firefighters and support crews to British Columbia today to help battle wildfires across the province. Calgary police say the man who shot at officers and struck one officer twice during a traffic stop yesterday had ties to organized crime. Environment Canada has introduced a new polygon-based alert system across Canada to provide more precise warnings about severe weather. The goal is to reduce unnecessary alerts being sent to people who are not directly in the path of a storm.
