Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney met with United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer in London on Monday, where the two leaders discussed international security issues and cooperation on intelligence sharing.

The meeting took place at 10 Downing Street, the official residence and office of the British prime minister. According to statements from the leaders, Canada and the United Kingdom agreed to continue working closely together on global challenges, including security and intelligence coordination.

Carney said the current global environment has become increasingly complex and requires stronger cooperation among allied countries. He said collaboration between partners such as Canada and the United Kingdom is essential to address emerging international threats.

Starmer thanked Canada for its support to the international coalition known as the Coalition of the Willing, which backs assistance efforts for Ukraine. Carney, in turn, praised Starmer’s leadership on the Ukraine issue and said international partnerships are needed to respond to growing global challenges.

Carney is in London as part of official engagements. After completing meetings in the United Kingdom, he is expected to spend time in Europe on private leave.

Why this matters: Canada and the United Kingdom maintain close security and intelligence ties through NATO and other alliances, and coordination on Ukraine remains a major international policy focus.

What happens next: Canadian officials say discussions between the two governments on security cooperation and support for Ukraine are expected to continue in the coming months.
