Prime Minister Mark Carney will attend two “Forever Canadian” rallies in Alberta just days before the province’s upcoming referendum.

On October 19, Alberta voters will have their say on a proposed referendum on the province’s potential separation from Canada, along with nine other questions related to constitutional and immigration issues.

The “Forever Canadian” campaign, launched by former Alberta deputy premier Thomas Lukaszuk, aims to encourage Albertans to vote in favour of remaining part of Canada.

According to the organization’s website, Carney was invited to attend rallies in Calgary on October 15 and Edmonton on October 16. The Prime Minister’s Office has confirmed his participation.

Carney, who grew up in Alberta, also urged Albertans to remain connected with Canada in his Thanksgiving Day message.

Canada’s housing market could face another challenging year, as the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) has lowered its forecast for home sales in 2026 for the third consecutive quarter. CREA had previously projected a modest increase in home sales this year. However, amid growing market uncertainty, it now expects 444,530 homes to be sold by the end of 2026, representing a 5.2 per cent decline compared with 2025. According to CREA senior economist Shaun Cathcart, higher fixed mortgage rates have weighed on home sales. Buyers are also expected to remain cautious in the final months of th
