Months after a deadly shooting in B.C.’s Lower Mainland, a suspect has been arrested and charged.
Langley resident Barinder Singh Dhaliwal, 41, was taken into custody Tuesday, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said.
On June 4, 2025, the BC Prosecution Service approved charges against Dhaliwal for possession of a loaded firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm while prohibited.
“Today’s outcome is the result of teamwork between IHIT, Langley RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS) and CFSEU-BC, and their commitment to public safety,” says Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT.
Background:
On September 21, 2024, at approximately 6:00 p.m., the Langley RCMP responded to shots fired in the area of 196 Street and 84 Avenue, Langley. Responding officers located two men suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the men succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The other man, located at 208 Street and 78 Avenue, was taken to hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) assumed conduct of the investigation.
The deceased was identified as 38-year-old Johnathan Hebrada-Walters, from Edmonton, Alberta. Mr. Hebrada-Walters was known to police and the shooting was believed to be a targeted event, linked to the BC gang conflict.
