Surrey RCMP is updating the public that charges have been approved against a 42-year-old Alberta man in relation to a shooting at a residence in the Newton area.

On September 23, 2021, Surrey RCMP responded to a shooting in the 8800-block of 140B Street, that left two men injured. Please see previous media release for details.

On November 1, 2021, after an in-depth investigation by the Surrey RCMP Serious Crime Unit, 42-year-old Travis Bowcock was charged with six criminal offences in relation to the shooting on September 23, 2021. Bowcock remains in custody awaiting trial on the following charges:

One count of Attempt Murder;

One count of Aggravated Assault;

One count of using a firearm in the commission of an offence;

Two counts of discharging a firearm with intent; and

One count of Personating a Peace Officer.

Bowcock has been in custody since October 13, 2021, when Surrey RCMP Frontline officers arrested him for being in possession of a loaded firearm in the 18600-block of Fraser Highway. Multiple firearms charges were laid against Bowcock in relation to that incident which lead to him being remanded into custody.

In an attempt to obtain further information and advance both ongoing investigations, Surrey RCMP is releasing a recent photo of Travis Bowcock. Investigators are requesting that any possible witnesses or anyone who may have knowledge of Bowcock’s activities leading up to these offences to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.

Criminal activity and gang violence are not confined to the boundaries of municipalities or provinces, says Cpl Vanessa Munn, Media Relations Officer for the Surrey RCMP. Mr. Bowcock travelled from his home in Alberta to commit these alleged crimes, putting our community at risk. The Surrey RCMP remains committed to targeting any individuals, regardless of where they may call home, who pose a risk to the safety of our city.

These declines were offset by gains in construction, which grew 1.3%, and public services, which increased 1.7%. Statistics Canada’s preliminary estimate suggests the economy could rebound by 0.2% in August. However, Deloitte Canada has lowered its 2027 GDP growth forecast from 2% to 1.6%,

Canada’s 2025 Population Revised to Show Growth, Not Decline

Statistics Canada has revised its earlier estimate of Canada’s population, saying the country’s population increased by 280,810 people in 2025. Earlier this year, the agency’s preliminary figures suggested that Canada had recorded its first annual population decline. Statistics Canada later clarified that the initial figures were provisional and were based on incomplete data related to work and study permit extensions. After a second review and the inclusion of updated administrative data, the revised figures now show population growth in 2025. However, Canada’s population growth has s

Former Surrey Police Chief Norm Lipinski Seeks Judicial Review of Dismissal

Former Surrey Police Chief Norm Lipinski has filed a petition in B.C. Supreme Court seeking a judicial review of his removal from office, alleging that political interference by Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke played a key role in the decision. In the petition filed Monday, Lipinski said he was given no notice or opportunity to respond before being dismissed. He alleges the decision was not based on his qualifications or performance, but was politically motivated.
