An 18 year old Quebec student who was visiting BC as part of a school group has been critically injured in a bus crash near Castlegar.

RCMP say the teen and 15 other Quebec students were aboard a transit bus near Castlegar last Thursday when the bus was side-swiped by a delivery van, severely injuring the teen who was sitting beside the window where the van hit.

The other students, who were taking part in a program at Selkirk College, kept their injured friend alive until help arrived and police say she has been transferred to hospital in Kelowna, where she remains on life-support but is not expected to survive.

Mounties are hoping the drivers of three vehicles that were just ahead of the bus on Highway 3A at about 4:30 last Thursday afternoon may have details that could determine why the van veered into the oncoming lane.

Police said officers with the RCMP Tactical Marine Operations Group (TMOG), who were conducting patrols in Burrard Inlet, received a distress call over Marine VHF Channel at about 3:30 p.m. on July 5 reporting an overturned canoe off Ambleside Beach. Four TMOG vessels were dispatched to the scene. According to the RCMP, officers arriving at the location found all 11 occupants clinging to the overturned canoe.

U.S. tourist dies after cyclist collision at downtown Vancouver crosswalk

A 72-year-old man from the United States has died after being struck by a cyclist while crossing a downtown Vancouver street, according to the Vancouver Police Department. Three youths arrested after entering Abbotsford construction site, police seize BB guns and counterfeit cash

Three youths were arrested after allegedly entering a construction site in Abbotsford overnight, where police say they were found hiding on a large crane following an alarm activation.
