Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he spoke with US President Joe Biden about the protesters that are still blockading several border crossings and demanding an end to all COVID-19 vaccine mandates.

Trudeau says the two leaders discussed the presence of American citizens in the demonstrations and the role foreign funds are playing in the protests.

He says they both agree the protests cannot continue.

The PM also says he's a long way away from calling in the military to quell protests in Ottawa, though he says the federal government must be ready for anything.

Trudeau says the people still illegally blocking streets in Ottawa and border crossings to the United States must go home or face increasingly severe consequences that could ruin their lives.
