Richmond RCMP conducted a one-day retail theft operation downtown, leading to 15 arrests.

Richmond RCMP say 15 people were arrested during a single-day operation aimed at curbing retail theft in the city’s downtown core. The targeted enforcement took place on October 18 as part of the detachment’s ongoing “Boost and Bust” initiative.

Police say most of those arrested were from outside the Richmond area, and one person was taken into custody twice at separate locations. Two of the suspects were youth. Officers recovered more than $5,000 worth of stolen goods during the operation.

The “Boost and Bust” initiative is partly funded by the provincial Community Safety and Targeted Enforcement Program, which supports efforts to address repeat property crime and organized retail theft. RCMP officials say operations like this are being increased ahead of the busy holiday season.

Corporal Pierre Beauchamp with the Richmond RCMP Property Crime Unit said retail theft has far-reaching impacts on workers, business owners, and the wider community. He noted that some thefts involve organized groups reselling items such as food and health products through unregulated markets, posing health and safety risks to consumers.

Police say retail theft remains a significant concern in Richmond’s downtown core. Along with enforcement, RCMP officers continue to work with local businesses to strengthen prevention measures, including improved security systems and crime-prevention design.

Canada’s Economy Contracts in Fourth Quarter of 2025 as Annual Growth Slows

Canada’s economy recorded a contraction in the final three months of 2025, defying earlier expectations of stable growth, according to new data released by Statistics Canada on Friday. The federal agency reported that real gross domestic product declined at an annualized rate of 0.6 per cent in the October to December quarter. Economists had anticipated little to no change during that period. The slowdown was attributed in part to weaker residential investment and lower inventory rebuilding by manufacturers. Statistics Canada said companies met demand by drawing down existing inventories ins

Delhi court acquits Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia in excise policy case, CBI to appeal

A Delhi trial court has acquitted former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia in the Delhi excise policy case, ruling that the prosecution failed to establish the charges beyond reasonable doubt. In its order, the court said the Central Bureau of Investigation did not present sufficient evidence to substantiate allegations linked to the now-scrapped liquor policy. The judge observed that serious criminal charges require strong and credible proof and cannot be based on assumptions. The case centred on alleged irregularities in the formulation and
