During an election campaign event in Montreal today, Liberal Party Leader Mark Carney sharply criticized U.S. President Donald Trump, accusing him of destabilizing the global trading system and harming the global economy.

Carney stated that the United States can no longer be relied upon as a stable economic leader. In response, he called on like-minded nations to join Canada in reshaping the international trade landscape, positioning Canada as a potential leader in this effort.

In a related move, the Carney-led government has announced relief measures for Canadian businesses affected by ongoing trade tensions with the U.S. Canadian manufacturing, processing, and food and beverage packaging companies will be temporarily exempt from retaliatory tariffs on essential goods imported from the United States.
