Almost 20 per cent of those who are eligible for a vaccine in British Columbia have had their shot.

A joint statement from provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix says 946,096 doses of the three vaccines have been administered, and of those, more than 87,000 were second doses.

The province recorded another 997 new cases on Wednesday and two more deaths.

There are 330 people in hospital and the number in intensive care has grown to 105.

Additional genome sequencing hasn't been completed since the Tuesday report, so the number for variants of concern remains at 3,766 confirmed cases, most of them the variant first detected in the United Kingdom.

More than 300,000 people have registered online to get on the list for vaccinations, while those 70 and older, Indigenous people 18 and over and those who are clinically extremely vulnerable are able to book appointments.

Asked by reporters whether Canada has now entered a trade war with the United States, Carney said the country is responding to what he described as an economic attack. Carney acknowledged that tariffs could lead to higher prices and fewer choices for Canadians. He said, however, that rejecting what he characterized as a bad deal was in Canada’s interest. "Last-minute changes in the U.S.-proposed terms were unfair, uneconomic, and called into question the reliability of any deal. Canada will match those tariffs dollar for dollar to protect our workers and businesses." In a statement released Friday night, U.S.

Poilievre Warns Accepting U.S. Tariffs Could Devastate Canada’s Industrial Sector

Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre has lashed out at the Liberal government during ongoing Canada-U.S. trade talks in Washington, warning that accepting unilateral U.S. tariffs could devastate Canada’s industrial sector. Speaking to reporters in Kitchener, Ontario, Poilievre strongly criticized the proposed 25 per cent U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum.
