Om Birla elected Speaker for the second time in a row

In India, the ongoing dispute between the NDA alliance led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the India Alliance of opposition parties over the appointment of Lok Sabha Speaker has ended. NDA's Om Birla was elected Speaker for the second time in a row through the vice vote held in the House today.

After this Prime Minister Narendra and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi left him to the chair. In the first speech, Om Birla mentioned the emergency imposed during the Congress government and described it as a black mark on democracy and observed two minutes of silence in memory of the common citizens who died during it, but the opposition parties created a ruckus.

In fact, on 25 June 1975, the government led by Indira Gandhi imposed emergency in India. Meanwhile, people were deprived of their fundamental rights.

In a post on Twitter, PM Modi said, "I am happy that the Honorable Speaker strongly condemned the Emergency and highlighted the atrocities that took place during it and how democracy was strangled. PM Modi said that this was the day when the Constitution was violated.
