Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Jordan on Monday for a two-day official visit aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries. He was received at the airport by Jordanian Prime Minister Jafar Hassan.

During the first day of his visit, Prime Minister Modi met members of the Indian-origin community in Jordan, highlighting the role of people-to-people connections in deepening bilateral relations. The visit is taking place at the invitation of Jordan’s King Abdullah.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Modi and King Abdullah are expected to hold bilateral talks covering trade, investment, defence cooperation and regional security issues. Both leaders will also jointly address an India-Jordan business forum attended by leading business representatives from the two countries.

India is currently Jordan’s fourth-largest trading partner. Bilateral trade between the two nations reached approximately Rs 26,033 crore during the 2023–24 financial year, reflecting steady growth in economic engagement.

The visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Jordan. Prime Minister Modi is visiting Jordan after a gap of nearly seven years. His previous visit to the country was in 2018, during a brief transit stop.

Canada records job losses in January as labour market shows new signs of strain

Canada’s economy took a step backward in January as the country recorded a net loss of about 25,000 jobs, according to the latest Labour Force Survey released by Statistics Canada. The decline marks the first monthly drop in employment since late summer and signals renewed pressure in key sectors tied to trade and construction. The manufacturing and construction industries experienced the sharpest losses, with economists pointing to ongoing trade uncertainty and U.S. tariff pressures as contributing factors. Private-sector employment and part-time work were particularly affected, while women
