An alleged shooting incident has reportedly occurred in the area of 134th Street and 89A Avenue in Surrey around noon today. Allegedly, the shooting target was a home.

This is the second shooting in Surrey in three days. Earlier on Monday, Sidhu Travel Ltd in York Centre had been targeted in a shooting incident.

The head of Surrey Police Service, Chief Constable Norm Lipinski, faced some tough questions on the deteriorating Law and Order situation in the city on Connect FM's Dupehar Wala Show (afternoon show).

This year, there have been two instances where a local business related to a Hindi film industry celebrity Kapil Sharma and another local businessman's home were targeted twice within weeks. One of the shooting happened while a police cruiser was parked nearby the targeted home.

When asked about the public's concerns about the law and order situation in Surrey and his thoughts on the extortion incidents, the police chief said that, “other Canadian cities such as Brampton and Edmonton have also faced similar situations and that these cases are new to Surrey.”

He added, “calls regarding the cases come from abroad which complicates the situation”, but he did not explain why arrests are not being made if the bullets are not fired from abroad.

Meanwhile, when the police chief was asked if he considered Surrey a safe city to live in, he admitted that “people's concerns about the frequent shooting incidents are valid, but Surrey is still a safe city to live in.”
