Top oil producers increase oil production despite climate change concerns: Report

While Canada is working seriously on climate change, a report released by the United Nations on Wednesday revealed that the top oil producing country is producing far more oil and gas than the target set to limit global warming, including Canada.

Oil-producing countries are still planning to more than double production in 2030 from the limit needed to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, the report says.

Canada, the world's fourth-largest oil producer, could see its fuel production fall to 25 percent of 2022 levels by 2035 if it does not take further steps to reduce emissions, the report said, citing data from Canada's energy regulator.

In contrast, Norway and the United Kingdom are on track to reduce production, while the US, the largest producer of fossil fuels, is also on track to increase production.
