U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that a Tuesday deadline for Iran to agree to a deal remains firm, warning that U.S. forces could launch broad attacks on Iranian infrastructure if no agreement is reached.

Speaking to reporters during an Easter event at the White House, Trump described Iran’s latest proposal as “a significant step” but said it does not meet U.S. expectations. “It’s not good enough,” he said, adding that the conflict could end quickly if Iran complies with specific conditions.

According to Trump, negotiations have been conducted indirectly through Pakistan, with U.S. officials seeking an agreement in which Iran would abandon nuclear weapons ambitions and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian officials have said they are seeking a permanent end to hostilities rather than a temporary ceasefire.

Trump also suggested that the current Iranian negotiating team appears less hardline than previous representatives, some of whom he said were killed in recent airstrikes. He did not provide further details.

The president added that while he personally favours U.S. control over Iran’s oil resources, such a move would likely not have public support in the United States.
