Canada’s International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu met with Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal in Mumbai on Friday to discuss ongoing negotiations for the proposed Free Trade Agreement between the two countries.

The meeting comes at an important stage as Canada and India aim to conclude the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) by the end of this year.

According to Sidhu and Goyal, both sides reiterated their commitment to finalizing the agreement as soon as possible. The proposed deal is expected to create new opportunities for businesses in both countries in areas including goods, services and investment.

The fourth round of talks between the chief negotiators of Canada and India was also completed earlier this week.

During his two-day visit to India, Sidhu is also scheduled to meet with major Indian business leaders and investors.

India’s major exports to Canada include pharmaceuticals, iron and steel, seafood, textiles and electronic goods. Canada, meanwhile, exports pulses, fertilizers, paper products and crude oil to India.

Kelowna RCMP has confirmed the death of a motorcycle rider following a crash on Highway 97 Thursday night. Police said the collision occurred at around 10 p.m. at the intersection of Harvey Avenue and Ethel Street, involving a black sedan and a motorcycle.
