Canada’s International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu is leading a high-level trade mission to India until October 17. The delegation, comprising nearly 300 business and export representatives, is the largest trade mission Ottawa has sent to India in the past 30 years.
The visit aims to expand bilateral trade, attract investment and accelerate ongoing negotiations for a free trade agreement between the two countries.
Canada has set a target of increasing annual trade with India to $70 billion by 2030, up from the current level of $30 billion.
Sidhu said Canada sees significant business opportunities in India across sectors including aerospace, clean technologies, energy transition and agri-food.
He noted that India is expected to need more than 2,000 aircraft in the coming years, creating opportunities for Canada’s aerospace industry to contribute to the country’s growing demand.
Sidhu also highlighted the growing presence of Indian companies in Canada, saying they have created approximately 36,000 jobs in the country.
