Prime Minister Mark Carney is scheduled to visit British Columbia today, with stops in Richmond and Vancouver focused on community engagement and Liberal Party activities.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Carney will join members of the local community in Richmond to take part in Lunar New Year celebrations, an event that draws significant participation from the region’s large Chinese Canadian population. Richmond is home to one of the largest Asian communities in Canada, and Lunar New Year events are considered an important cultural and civic gathering across Metro Vancouver.

Later in the day, the Prime Minister is expected to attend a Liberal Party fundraiser at a private residence in Vancouver. Organizers have set the ticket price for the VIP event at $1,775. The Prime Minister’s Office has clarified that no new federal policy announcements or funding commitments are expected during this visit, which is primarily centred on party engagement and community outreach.

During his trip, Carney will also tour an affordable housing project in the region. Housing affordability remains a key issue in British Columbia, particularly in Metro Vancouver, where rising home prices and rental costs continue to be a major public policy concern for residents and all levels of government.

Last week, Carney met with families affected by the mass shooting tragedy in Tumbler Ridge, where he joined other political leaders in expressing condolences and support for the community during a difficult time.

The legislation, first enacted in 2019, establishes a federal review process for major infrastructure and resource projects, including pipelines, mines and energy developments, assessing potential environmental, economic, health and social impacts.
