Actor Imran Khan has issued an unconditional apology after the Bombay High Court reprimanded him on Monday for participating in protests against the Chief Election Commissioner and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi and Justice Advait Sethna observed that only Indian citizens have the fundamental right to participate in protests.
The court also remarked that India was being lenient by issuing a notice to the US citizen, who holds an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card, instead of immediately deporting him.
Following the court's observations, Imran Khan's lawyer, Venkatesh Dhond, submitted a written undertaking stating that the actor would not participate in any protests in the future.
