A motorcyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash in Delta on Saturday that left the motorcycle hanging from a traffic light, according to Delta police.

Delta Police said officers responded to the 7100 block of Scott Road shortly before 3 p.m. following reports of a collision involving a motorcycle and another vehicle.

Police said the motorcyclist suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

According to a Delta Police news release, speed is believed to have been a contributing factor in the crash. Investigators have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the collision.

Images from the scene circulated widely on social media showing a blue motorcycle suspended vertically from a traffic signal arm. Delta Firefighters IAFF Local 1763 said firefighters assisted with patient care, scene safety and the removal of the motorcycle from the traffic light infrastructure.

The crash caused a temporary disruption along a busy corridor connecting Surrey and Delta. Police have not said whether charges are being considered as the investigation continues.

Police say speed remains a factor in serious crashes across Metro Vancouver corridors, particularly on high-traffic arterial roads. Delta Police continue to investigate the collision and have not released the identity of the injured rider.
