World Swimming Championship 2025: Canada wins bronze in 4X100m mixed medley relay

Canadian athletes continued their strong run at the World Swimming Championships in Singapore, adding a bronze medal on Day 4 and setting up more medal chances in coming finals.

The mixed 4x100m medley relay team of Kylie Masse, Oliver Dawson, Josh Liendo, and Taylor Ruck took bronze with a time of 3:40.90.

Teen sensation Summer McIntosh, 18, advanced to the final of the 200m butterfly after finishing her semi-final in 2:06.22. McIntosh, already a two-time gold medalist at these championships, is considered a favourite for a third title.

In the women’s 50m backstroke semi-finals, both Kylie Masse and Ingrid Wilm secured spots in the final, with times of 27.50 and 27.48 seconds respectively.

Canada’s total medal count now stands at five - two gold, one silver, and two bronze - placing the country in the top 10 of the medal table.

“It’s inspiring to see Canadian swimmers consistently challenge the traditional powerhouses,” said one coach from local Surrey swimming club. He felt that McIntosh’s rise has already inspired more registrations among young athletes.

The World Championships continue this week, with finals in butterfly and backstroke expected to be key medal opportunities.
